Still working on the wing

I ran short of fabric so I ordered more and it’s here, so I will start covering the starboard wing this week. Finishing up the wiring, cables, and screw replacement.

Now
Fuel tank strap hold down bolts
New aileron cable attached.
New wiring and wire grommet for position light.

Removing Surface Corrosion

Two types of corrosion here. Surface or oxide and galvanic corrosion. Steel screws used to hold down aluminum sheets to aluminum ribs causes galvanic corrosion between steel and aluminum while oxide corrosion is caused by oxygen and water reacting to the aluminum (basically). Not all of this is corrosion. Some is just fabric glue and zinc chromate.
Surface oxydation shows up as white powder
Surface corrosion removed
Corrosion inhibitor added

Progression

Just a few photos for you that think things aren’t getting done, I’ve added some before, during, and current photos here.

So it’s come a long way.

Finishing up the control Bellcrank

Aileron Bellcrank. The red stuff is grease and the top bolt is not installed upside down. It is correct for those of you who will ask 😉
Flap control Bellcrank installed
New aileron cable pulleys in place. I have to remove them when I run the new cables so they are not tightened down.
Wing root fuel tank strap and cable feed through installed

Flap Control Bellcrank

Putting things back together. Repaired flap guard installed along with new hardware. Yes, the nut is not tight yet.
Flap guard after welding
Ready to install

Remember the cracks in the flap bracket? Tried to find a replacement, but didn’t have much luck finding one. The parts book does not show the guard so no part number to search by. No listing that I could find at Univair, either.
