Rear Lift Strut Yoke

During the rebuilding process I’ve noticed the manual is not always correct. There are several issues of improper hardware listed in the manual for the intended purpose. One example is the bolt holding the rear lift strut yoke to the front strut. It calls for an AN5-11A bolt, which should go in from the front to the rear. The -11A is too long for this purpose, but an AN5-7A will work. But even the -7A is too long to insert from the front as shown in the manual.

The parts manual lists an AN5-11A.
The -11A is too long, won’t fit in from the front, and would require about three washers to allow the nut to properly tighten as the shank is too long.
Item 25 is the AN bolt that holds the rear strut to the main strut. The photo shows it inserted from the front to the rear. The -11A will not fit this way. An AN-7A will fit fine, except it won’t go in from the front, just the rear. An AN5-5A is too short. A keen eye will notice item 5 in the drawing. It is an aileron trim tab. This Stinson doesn’t have one, although it is called out in the manual (p/n 108-1711014 for s/n’s 2250—-2391—-3500).

Wings

I’m a little backed up with work and home projects, but here are some recent Stinson photos and videos.

Wheels

It was colder than forecast today, but we made it to the hangar anyway. Put the big boy wheels and tires on for fit. Need to add the brakes later, but now I can get rid of the smaller wheels and tires.

Big boy wheels are on. Will need to remove to add the brakes.
