Two items to watch for on our trip to Oshkosh this year, the Starter and the Carburetor.

Starter is a Delco 1109651

Carb is a Marvel MA-4-5

But still get to hang around old airplanes.  An OX-5 Jenny engine and a Curtiss Jenny hanging from the ceiling in Dallas, TX.

A simple item that didn’t take much time to do but needs to be done.

I found some paint stripper from work that will easily remove paint so I tried it tonight and all six cans clogged up!  Not my evening so I quit for the night.  However, one can worked for a while and I was able to remove some paint.  It’s a start.

The only damage to the fuselage that I can find is a crease in one of the support tubes.  It has not cracked through so it will be an easy fix.

I can use FAA AC43.13-1B to make a repair by using the welded patch repair process.

After unwrapping the old fabric I found the fuselage N numbers.   They are extremely brittle but I think they can be saved.  I’ve cleaned them up and hung them to see if the wrinkles will come out.

The cowling is in rough shape, too. One hinge point is broken but it’s riveted on so easy to repair.  The hinge fasteners are rusty but should work fine once they are cleaned.

Latches are easily removed.

They are a little rough.

The 165 hp Franklin engine is the light case model.  It was never updated to the heavy case.  That just means the Airworthiness Directive applies to it and it requires inspections of the case every 100 hours.

It is good to know the engine turns over!  It’s missing the starter and the carb.
