Weighing the Stinson

Will weigh it this weekend. I still need to put on the wheel pants and associated items, headliner, prop, and drain usable fuel. But I’m ready otherwise. Scales are out and set up.

Need to set up the scales for a tailwheel aircraft.
Will add the wheel pants, etc., this weekend.
In case you want to know how easy it is to do this.

Great Weather Day

A bit of rain, but the cool temps allowed a lot to get done today. Finishing up the bottom cowling installation. This isn’t the original cowling as that item was scraped up a bit after grandpa’s ‘walk down the grass strip’ at the farm back in the 60’s. Hence, no holes line up with the replacement cowling.

I am also getting set up to do a weight and balance.

Three holes on the bottom cowling near the rear.
Getting ready to drill the holes.
Holes are drilled, installing Clecoes to temporarily hold the cowling.
Preparing for doing the weight and balance.
Getting close.
This side is not fitting perfectly. Needs some adjustment. The left side fits perfectly.

Great Weather this Weekend

Finished the engine baffle material installation. Then worked on getting the seat belt shoulder harness permanently installed. Afterwards we starting putting the interior in. Still need to safety some turnbuckles before the headliner goes in.

Then it’s weight and balance time (after the prop goes back on).

Rolled it out to sweep the hangar.

Hot Day

It was a hot afternoon at the hangar but I got things done until it got too hot.

Old on the left, new on the right.
All new now.

No Lift Update

I used flat white for the ‘contrasting color’ called out for on the drawing. Diana Creme would have worked but I’m all out and I didn’t want to spend $200 just to do these in that color. White looks fine.

No Lift

Added the No Lift stencils and the fuel tank stencils so I can paint them this week. See photos.

Also, final fitting of the cowlings.

Also, installed the passenger door windows and put the door on.

Oil Cooler Bracket

After a lot of frustration and back and forth designing and making this bracket, after the third attempt I got it installed. I’ll tighten everything up and continue with the engine inspection so I can mount the cowling.

More Cold

It’s been really cold here with temps dropping into negative numbers. I did manage to build a new bracket for the oil cooler. Finishing it up by adding four nut plates to hold the cooler.

It’s supposed to warm up next week.

Green primer, then black paint applied.
This old bracket didn’t fit properly and had several cracks.
