Weekend Progress

The weather really cooperated this weekend. Marie and I spent most of Saturday and part of today at the hangar.

We started off by checking control surface deflections and then checked cable tensions. Made some small adjustments and then we safetied the turnbuckles.

Today we began to install the headliner. We didn’t finish it quite yet.

I also changed out the aluminum tubing for the pitot and static lines with rubber hoses.

Photos to follow below.

Intermediate flaps 26-28 degrees
Flaps full down between 32-34 degrees
Elevator down with flaps up, 19.5-20.5.
Elevator up, flaps up, 16.5-17.5.
Elevator trim tab
Down trim needed adjustment.
Same with the up reading.
Elevator trim tab should be 10-20 lbs.
Safetied all the turnbuckles and installed cotter pins.
Flap cable turnbuckles safetied and cotter pins installed.
Safetied the aileron balance turnbuckle behind the instrument panel.
Replaced the aluminum tubing with….
…rubber hose.
All the hoses replaced.
Getting the headliner ready for installation.

Weighing the Stinson

Will weigh it this weekend. I still need to put on the wheel pants and associated items, headliner, prop, and drain usable fuel. But I’m ready otherwise. Scales are out and set up.

Need to set up the scales for a tailwheel aircraft.
Will add the wheel pants, etc., this weekend.
In case you want to know how easy it is to do this.

Great Weather Day

A bit of rain, but the cool temps allowed a lot to get done today. Finishing up the bottom cowling installation. This isn’t the original cowling as that item was scraped up a bit after grandpa’s ‘walk down the grass strip’ at the farm back in the 60’s. Hence, no holes line up with the replacement cowling.

I am also getting set up to do a weight and balance.

Three holes on the bottom cowling near the rear.
Getting ready to drill the holes.
Holes are drilled, installing Clecoes to temporarily hold the cowling.
Preparing for doing the weight and balance.
Getting close.
This side is not fitting perfectly. Needs some adjustment. The left side fits perfectly.
