Hi. My name is Kim Marangoni. Sorry if I’m barging in on a conversation, I am unsure how to use this site. My grandfather, Charles Shebanek and family were friends of the Fritz Womack family (Iola 1930’s?). I’m wondering if you know of this relationship? Kim
Terrific, thank you! They were friends “back in the day”. My grandparents (and their children) lived in Iola from 1922-1960 (although the kids started migrating to CA in 1942). My Aunt Mary is still living (turned 90 last Jan) and she recalls going to the Country School with Caroline, Betty and Doris Jean. I know your grandfather Fritz came to visit my grandfather Charlie in 1962 after they moved to California and my grandfather visited Fritz on a trip back to KS in 1978. I’m doing some genealogy work piecing together life in Iola and happened across your site.
Kim, I am one of Fritz’s grandsons I remember your grandfather Charlie. Although I did not “know” him, I recall when he came back to visit.
I knew where the old home place was and heard Fritz talk about him several times. I also knew Fritz went to California to visit.
Doug, thank you for the reply! By “the old home place” do you mean the farm on Horville Road? (My mom Ruth always called it The Ellis Place). They moved there from town (N. Jefferson) in 1942 after daughter Agnes was killed in a car accident. In early 1950’s he purchased some property further down same road from Mr. MacDonald (I believe). I would love to hear ANY memories. By the way, I have a couple 1929 news articles about Fritz (flying) from the Iola Register I would love to share if you guys don’t have. Not sure how to on this site tho.
Now go breathe some fresh air!

Kim, I do not, but maybe some that follow this website might. I’ll post it and pass it on to see. Fritz was my grandfather.
