The 165 hp Franklin engine is the light case model.  It was never updated to the heavy case.  That just means the Airworthiness Directive applies to it and it requires inspections of the case every 100 hours.

It is good to know the engine turns over!  It’s missing the starter and the carb.

I’m guessing the engine hasn’t been turned over for quite some time and it’s last operation was in 1967 or so.  The engine does turn over and I shot some video from inside a cylinder to see how the valves and piston looked.  You can see it here Franklin Engine

This Stinson 108 hangs the carrot way out front so I know what the eventual goal is.

This whole mechanism is missing and that sucks.

The oleo cover.  Just needs to be cleaned and straightened some.

I think this is a good pattern but I believe it may be more work to remove the covering than to cut a new piece.

The cowling panels today.  A little rough but still usable after some work.

This is part of the flap handle mechanism.

The flap handle is all there but there is a piece broken.  I have the piece so it should go back together fine.  It still needs to be media blasted and primed.

The door hinges were different colors.  The right door was red and the left door was cream.  I understand grandpa rapidly exited the door during the incident in 1967(68?) and the hinge was replaced.  I media blasted, cleaned, and primed them for now.

I mounted the rudder to the vertical stab to see how easy it fit and to see if there were any bends to it.  It went together well and appears to be straight.
